Every Door Direct Mailer
We get asked frequently about mailers and postcards and what is the best way for businesses to get the most bang for their buck. Whenever this subject comes up, we talk about one of the USPS biggest secrets: Every Door Direct Mailer. The Every Door Direct Mailer (EDDM) program is an incredibly cost effective way to reach—well—every door in a specific mail route for a very low cost point. In-fact the cost to mail to every door on a mail-persons route is a fraction of the cost of traditional list-based mailings. So an obvious question becomes: What are the benefits and limitations of Every Door Mailers?
BENEFITS
- There’s no list to buy, maintain and update.
- No need to print names.
- Incredibly Low Cost.
- Find new Customers.
- Regional Targeting.
- No Mailing Permit Required.
- Timely Delivery.
Traditional mailing lists require you first and foremost to purchase or acquire an actual list of names and addresses for recipients. In addition, your list will need to be updated to ensure you are sending to the correct individuals.
Regular mailing services require you to print names and addresses individually on your marketing pieces, or manually stick labels on—both are time consuming and costly. EDDM removes that costly step completely.
On average, you can mail a post-card sized promotional piece for as low as ¢14 per piece. First class postage for a postcard is currently ¢32 per piece.
Saturating a specific target location ensures you get the word out about your business, special/promotion or listing. EDDM is a great way to target specific neighborhoods, or saturate an entire region quickly and cost-effectively.
Target specific mailing routes serviced by the USPS, and target specific 5-Digit Zip Code locations, and see how many houses will be reached per-route.
For mailings of less than 5,000 postal customer recipients no permit is required, and mailings can be submitted to the local post-office in the delivery zone.
First class mailings can take up to a week to deliver—EDDM deliveries are made on the next days route ensuring that every customer receives their piece on the same day.
LIMITATIONS
- Un-targeted.
- Maximum Mailing Per Day Limit.
Traditional mailing lists can offer targeting around demographics, and also allow you to directly target your existing clients with your marketing. EDDM connects with entire mailing routes of households—so targeted mailings are not possible.
The USPS offers the EDDM service at the local post-office with no permit for a limit of up to 5000 pieces per day. If you wish to mail larger quantities a permit is required.
